Program for Golf Course Improvements - Completed in 2021
Club Course Renovation - Completed in Summer of 2022
DESCRIPTION
Polo Club prides itself as being among the leading social, recreational and residential golf communities in South Florida. There are two, 18-hole golf courses on property - The Equestrian Course and the Club Course. Both were designed by architects Karl Litten and Tim Freeland. The Club Course first opened for play in 1985 before being renovated later by Freeland in 2002.
Twenty years later, JDR executed a complete overhaul of the layout, including the replacement of all of the major infratsructures as well as the re-imagining of the playing strategies and visual identity on each respective hole. This included the adjustment and addition of tees, adjustment of water bodies, softening of earth forms, refined fairway and greenside bunkering and the complete redevelopment of the greens complexes - all to promote more playing options and increased enjoyment among the Club's diverse golfer abilities.
Perhaps the greatest challenge of our efforts was the redundant nature of the way the holes were visually presented, all wedged into a mature residential community. When the surrounding environment is similarly dictated, hole after hole, that presents a profound hurdle for the golf architect - to make holes feel and play very distinctively while maintining a proper balance and flow within the whole sequence of the layout. Upon re-opening for play in late 2022, the Club Course is now prepared to provide enjoyment to its members for a long time.
